Apple TV+ picks up Tetris starring Taron Egerton

Staff Writer

Apple TV+ is reportedly booting Tetris: The Movie, with Taron Egerton on board to star.

The film, which is produced by Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films and Leonard Blavatnik’s AI Film, and supported by Screen Scotland, tells the story of the iconic video game. Egerton plays Henk Rogers, the Dutch designer who secured the rights to distribute the block-moving puzzler on consoles, where it became a major hit, and was later tied up with a copyright dispute surrounding the game in the 1980s.

Stan & Ollie helmer Jon S Baird is directing the project, with Noah Pink (Genius, The Show) penning the screenplay. Now, Deadline reports that Apple TV+ has picked up the cartridge and slotted it into its growing roster of original films. Casting is underway for other roles, such as Russian software engineer and Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov, and businessmen Robert and Kevin Maxwell.

Production is reportedly set to begin in December, with Gregor Cameron also producing through his banner Unigram, under a pact with AI Film, and Gillian Berrie.

It follows Apple TV+’s boarding of a number of other high-profile projects, including Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Snow Blind, and Justin Timberlake’s Palmer.
