Trailer: Black Mirror Season 5 set for June release
15th May 2019
Summer is coming, but June’s about to look bleaker than ever, with Black Mirror officially returning for a fifth season.
Charlie Brooker’s tech anthology, which loves nothing more than to explore the nature of human existence in our modern, digital age in brutal, disturbing detail, was renewed last year for a fifth season. That season, though, was pushed back, after the series got engulfed by Bandersnatch, an ambition, interactive one-off film.
Now, the series is gearing up for a fresh burst of timely drama, with a typically impressive cast that includes Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Andrew Scott, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.
You can see them in action in three new episodes, which will launch on Wednesday 5th June on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:
Black Mirror Season 5 set for 2019
30th December 2018
Black Mirror will return for a fifth season in 2019, Netflix has confirmed.
Charlie Brooker’s tech anthology, which loves nothing more than to explore the nature of human existence in our modern, digital age in brutal, disturbing detail, was renewed earlier this year for a fifth season. That season, though, ended up evolving into Bandersnatch, an interactive one-off film.
The movie sees a young programmer adapt a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game. An adventure game based on the book Bandersnatch by “Jerome F. Davies”, the job soon leaves him facing a mind-mangling challenge.
Bandersnatch stars Fionn Whitehead as Stefan, with support from People Just Do Nothing’s Asim Chaudhry as the computer games company owner, Tucker, and Will Poulter as gaming prodigy, Colin. Directed by Hard Candy’s David Slade, who previously helmed the black-and-white thriller episode of Black Mirror, Metalhead, the movie has been a paranoid sensation since it dropped this weekend, trending on Twitter throughout Friday as viewers were asked to make horrible decisions about moral dilemmas and what cereal to have for breakfast.
We’ve since broken down the myriad endings of the story, depending on what path in the choose-your-own-adventure labyrinth you end up going down.
While that has given fans something to chew over for some time, though, it also has taken up even more time for the show’s creators, Charlie Brooker and producer Annabel Jones.
As a result, Jones confirmed to THR this weekend that the full fifth season of Black Mirror has been pushed back. When exactly, and how many episodes that season will comprise, we don’t yet know, but it has been slated for 2019 release.
Watch this space for more when we get it.
Netflix renews Black Mirror for Season 5
6th March 2018
Netflix has renewed Black Mirror for a fifth season.
The Emmy Award-winning anthology series, which takes the intersection of humanity and technology to bleakly logical extremes, started out on Channel 4, with creator Charlie Brooker’s ability to balance dark horror with grim humour resonating with modern society. It then made the jump to Netflix for a third and fourth run of extended episodes, with the latest arriving just before the end of 2017. Now, within a few months of 2018 beginning, the streaming giant has confirmed a fifth season is on the way.
There is no word yet on when the fifth season will land, or how many episodes it will contain. What we do know is that Netflix’s marketing team has lost none of its style, tweeting a video teasing that the show will be right back (a nod to Season 2’s episode of the same title). And, with Season 4 pushing the series’ remit, form and tone to new ends – including a short black-and-white thriller, a space epic and the show’s first episode with a female director – Season 5 is only likely to be more ambitious than the last.
