Netflix has nabbed the latest script from Simon Kinberg, a heist story called Here Comes the Flood.

Kinberg is an established name among genre films, with a long-running involvement with the X-Men franchise and a hand in the scripts for xXx: State of the Union, Sherlock Holmes and Jumper, as well as producing credits on Logan, The Martin, Chappie, Elysium and more. His new project – Kinberg’s first original screenplay since Mr and Mrs Smith – proved something of a hot ticket this week, sparking a heated bidding.

Netflix ultimately emerged on top, with a reported seven-figure deal for the spec script. The elevated, character-driven thriller sees its heist play out in increments.

Kinberg is producing alongside Audrey Chon, President of Genre Films.

The cancer comes in a week where Netflix has also ordered a sequel for Extraction and lined up Louise Leterrier to direct Bright 2, with Bright director David Ayer to write and direct an adaptation of Harlan Coben novel Six Years.

Kinberg, meanwhile, is no stranger to streaming, having closed a deal last year to bring a sci-fi series to Apple TV+ inspired by The War of the Worlds.
