Jamie Foxx to star in Netflix’s Day Shift

Staff Writer

Jamie Foxx will reteam with Netflix once again for new vampire thriller Day Shift.

Foxx, who recently starred in Project Power, has since expanded his partnership with the streamer; he will co-star in and produce the upcoming film They Cloned Tyrone and the series Dad Stop Embarrassing Me. Now, he’s heading back into Netflix territory for his third original film for the streaming giant.

In Day Shift, Foxx plays a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted 8-year old daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires.

JJ Perry will make his directorial debut with the film. Perry is known as a second unit director and stunt coordinator, with credits including Fast & Furious 9, The Fate of the Furious, Bloodshot, and the John Wick franchise.

Day Shift is written by Tyler Tice with current revisions by Shay Hatten (John Wick: Parabellum, and upcoming films Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead for Netflix, and John Wick: Chapter 4). Also bringing some John Wick-style is Chad Stahelski, who will producer alongside Jason Spitz for 87Eleven Entertainment, plus Shaun Redick (Get Out, BlackKklansman) & Yvette Yates Redick (Malicious) for Impossible Dream Entertainment. Foxx will exec-produce alongside Datari Turner and Peter Baxter.

Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick discovered the Day Shift screenplay when debut writer Tyler Tice won the Slamdance Writing Competition Grand Prize. Impossible Dream Entertainment attached Perry to direct, and along with Tice they developed the screenplay further then teamed with Chad Stahelski and 87Eleven Entertainment and Netflix.

Stahelski says: “I’ve known and worked with JJ for a long time. His unique vision of Day Shift makes it such a great first directorial project for him.”

Redick adds: “Day Shift is a pulse-pounding thrill ride with action, danger and grounded comedy mixed with a deep mythology, the key ingredients for the absolute best time you can have watching a movie. We couldn’t be more excited about producing this at Netflix with Jamie Foxx starring!”
