Mayans MC will ride on to our screens again, with FX ordering a third season of the show.
Created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, Mayans M.C. is a spin-off that follows on from the award-winning Sons of Anarchy saga. The series picks up four years after Sons, as young Ezekiel (J.D. Pardo) finds himself drawn into the world of the Mayans Motorcyle Club, driven by the need for revenge against the Galindo cartel.
Unfolding on the California-Mexico border, it sees EZ trying to reconcile with his brother, Angel (Clayton Cardenas), while their father (Edward James Olmos) is struggling to lead his sons down the right path.
The cast also includes Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, Antonio Jaramillo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, Danny Pino and Emilio Rivera.
“Testosterone and gasoline fuel this biker drama and, once again, we’re immersed in the group politics, personal conflicts and violent retributions that bubble under the surface,” we wrote in our review of Season 1, which praised the spin-off for its “compelling” nature.
Season 1 of the show is currently available on BBC iPlayer, but Season 2 has just aired its finale in the US. At the same time, FX announced that his picked up a third season, with James stepping up to serve as showrunner in place of Sutter.
“We’re happy to continue telling the story of Mayans M.C. with our partners at Fox 21 and excited that Elgin James has earned the opportunity to become the series’ showrunner,” Nick Grad, President of Original Programming at FX Entertainment, said in a statement. “Kurt Sutter identified and chose Elgin as his partner on the show from the outset, and Elgin has been instrumental to the success of the series, leveraging his experience and creative vision to make Mayans M.C. with this incredible cast, crew and creative team.”
