Netflix has saved Manifest, bringing back the cancelled series for a fourth and final season.

The NBC drama, which airs on Sky in the UK, follows the passengers of Montego Air Flight 828, who have a turbulent flight. After landing safely, they discover the rest of the world has aged five years, with their loved ones presuming them all to be dead. But over the course of the show, it becomes apparent that the greater mystery hand may be that the passengers are destined for something greater than they ever imagined.

The series was cancelled by NBC after its third run, which started airing on Sky One in July. Now, after weeks of campaigns from fans and talks between Netflix and NBC, the streamer has officially picked the programme up for a bumper fourth chapter, which will premiere on Netflix worldwide.

The final season, again created by Jeff Rake, will comprise 20 episodes split into more than one part. Producers Warner Bros TV recently negotiated the return of the cast and writers alongside showrunner Rake, with cast members Josh Dallas and Melissa Roxburgh also officially closing deals to return. Talks are also underway for cast members JR Ramirez, Parveen Kaur, Luna Blaise, Matt Long and Jack Messina. The deal will also include the first three seasons of Manifest, which are currently available on Netflix in the USA, where the fan and actors’ campaign to save the show have led it to become one of the most-watched series on the service.

The pact marks a U-turn by Netflix after it originally passed on a deal with Warner Bros TV. Despite complications surrounding the pre-sold international rights, the deal follows a similar model to that inked by Netflix and Warner for Lucifer, which was cancelled by Fox and already sold to Amazon Prime Video in the UK, but was resurrected by the streamer for multiple seasons.

“Since its premiere on Netflix in June, Manifest has proven very popular with our members,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix Head of Global TV, told Deadline. “Jeff Rake and his team have crafted a beguiling mystery that has viewers around the world on the edge of their seats and believing again in second chances, and we’re thrilled that they will bring fans some closure with this final super-sized season.”

“What started years ago as a flight of fancy deep in my imagination has evolved into the jet engine journey of a lifetime,” Rake added. “Never in my wildest dreams could I have envisioned the worldwide outpouring of love and support for this story, its characters, and the team who work so hard to bring it all to life. That we will be able to reward the fans with the ending they deserve moves me to no end. On behalf of the cast, the crew, the writers, directors, and producers, thank you to Netflix, to Warner Bros, and of course to the fans. You did this.”
