Netflix nabs worldwide rights to CURS>R

Staff Writer

Netflix has nabbed the worldwide rights to horror film CURS>R at the Cannes virtual market.

The streamer is always a prominent presence at film festival marketplaces, and this year’s Croisette event is no exception, with the newly wrapped genre flick catching Netflix’s eye. The film stars Asa Butterfield, who already leads Netflix series Sex Education, and follows a college dropout who plays an obscure 1980s survival video game in the hope of winning a $125,000 prize. But when she’s cursed, she’s faced with dangerous, reality-warping consequences – and starts playing to stay alive.

Butterfield is joined on screen by Iola Evans (The 100), Eddie Marsan (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) and Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street). The film is directed by debut helmer Toby Meakins from a script by Simon Allen. It is produced by Sebastien Raybaud and John Zois for Anton, and Matthew James Wilkinson for Stigma Films, with Allen exec-producing alongside Nick Angel and Liza Glucoft.

Anton negotiated the deal alongside Endeavour Content, with the sale reaching high seven figures, according to Deadline.
