Netflix has renewed Ragnarok for a second season.

The super-powered coming-of-age thriller hails from the creator of Borgen, Adam Price, who builds upon and contributes a new and surprising angle to Norse mythology. Set in the small, fictitious town of Edda, where the locals are not all who they claim to be, it sees the human race facing a drastically changing world: melting poles, warm winters, violent downpours. Are the giants responsible? And does someone has the ability to intervene and stop them?

The cast includes David Stakston as Magne, who appears to be growing in supernatural powers, arousing the suspicion of his brother Laurits (Jonas Strand Gravli). Other Season 1 cast members include Theresa Frostad Eggesbø (Saxa), Herman Tømmeraas (Fjor), Emma Bones (Gry), Henriette Steenstrup, Odd-Magnus Williamson, Synnøve Macody Lund, Bjørn Sundquist and Gísli Örn Garðarsson.

Not all of them will return, but with the six-part first season only landing a few weeks ago, Netflix’s early renewal indicates a confidence on the world being built and the cliffhanger left by the Season 1 finale.

Behind the camera, the series is produced by SAM Productions, with Price serving as writer and executive producer, alongside executive producer Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen (Antichrist, Melancholia), producer Stine Meldgaard Madsen (Pros and Cons, Something’s Rockin’), script executive Emilie Lebech Kaae and director Mogens Hagedorn.

Netflix announced the renewal on Twitter, with new images teasing the expanding mythology that underpins the ensemble of enigmatic antagonists.
