Rupert Evans joins Bridgerton Season 2
Rupert Evans has joined the cast of Bridgerton for Season 2.
Created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), the series is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels and follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market – and, after the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne, teams up with the desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) to pretend to be in a relationship.
Page will not return for Season 2 as the Duke of Hastings, with the focus shifting instead to the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as he enters the marriage market.
Now, he’s for a father, with Evans set to play Edmund Bridgerton, the loving and devoted husband of Violet Bridgerton and an endlessly patient and kind father who takes special pride in guiding his eldest son, Anthony, through life.
Evans, who was most recently seen in The Doorman opposite Ruby Rose and Jean Reno, is no stranger to streaming, having starred as Frank Frink in Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle.
Sex Education’s Simone Ashley will co-star as Kate Sharma, a smart, headstrong young woman newly arrived in London who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included. Also recently cast are Charithra Chandran as Edwina Sharma, Kate’s naive younger sister, who has been taught to be the perfect debutante, Shelley Conn as Mary Sharma, Kate’s mother, who was once embroiled in scandal, Calam Lynch as Theo Sharpe, a hardworking printer’s assistant, and Rupert Young as Jack, the newest member of British high society.
