Reading time: 5 mins

Sky One returns to colonial Virginia for Season 3 of Jamestown this April, and a new trailer gives us our first glimpse at the show’s final season.

From the multi-award-winning producers of Downton Abbey, Carnival Films, the hotly anticipated final instalment of the 17th Century western stars a talented ensemble cast, which includes Max Beesley (Henry), Sophie Rundle (Alice), Naomi Battrick (Jocelyn), Jason Flemyng (Yeardley) and Niamh Walsh (Verity), as well as new cast member Ben Batt (Willmus Crabtree).

Again written by Bill Gallagher (Lark Rise to Candleford), Season 3 charts the early days of the first British settlers in America. With trade booming and the tobacco farms thriving, the settlers’ pioneering aspirations soon clash with the realities of creating a new nation on foreign soil.

Tensions rise as the flourishing community seeks expansion onto Pamunkey land, and with politics rife in the air, the idealism of the New World is tested. As Yeardley’s thirst for power and wealth grows, there are far reaching consequences. How far will Native American chief Opechancanough go to protect his land?

Jamestown is one of Sky One’s top returning commissioned dramas, with each episode of Season 2 drawing in an average cumulative audience of 1.1 million.

Cameron Roach, Director of Drama for Sky, says: “Jamestown is a very special Sky original drama of which we’ve had the privilege of sharing with our customers over the past two years. The third series marks the final chapter of an incredible story, which offers huge emotion as well as thrilling adventure, and we can’t wait for it to be shared with our audience. We would like to say a huge thank you to Bill Gallagher for such a compelling story, inspired by a remarkable piece of history, and to the team at Carnival, and the exceptional cast that have brought it to life.”

The eight-part final season will premiere on Friday 26th April 2019 on Sky One and NOW TV. Here’s the trailer:

Ben Batt joins Jamestown Season 3

7th July 2018

Ben Batt (In the Dark, Shameless) has joined the cast of Sky‘s Jamestown for its third season.

From the multi-award-winning producers of Downton Abbey, Carnival Films, Jamestown is one of Sky One’s top returning commissioned dramas, charting the early days of the first British settlers in America and the birth of the nation. The third season, again written by Bill Gallagher (Lark Rise to Candleford), sees trade booming and the tobacco farms established, but the settlers’ pioneering aspiration soon clashes with reality as they begin to strive for more than new lives – now they crave control and power. The flourishing community creates new tensions between the English and the Pamunkey, and with politics rife in the air, the idealism of the New World is tested.

Filming is now underway near Budapest, and sees the arrival of a new character: enigmatic trader Willmus Crabtree, played by Ben Batt. He joins an ensemble cast that includes Max Beesley (Henry), Sophie Rundle (Alice), Naomi Battrick (Jocelyn), Jason Flemyng (Yeardley) and Niamh Walsh (Verity).

Ben Batt comments: “I am delighted to have joined the Jamestown cast; it’s such an incredible show. I am excited to see how my character, Willmus Crabtree, shakes up the dynamic among the settlers, and I am really enjoying working with such a talented cast and crew.”

The eight-part run is scheduled to air in 2019 exclusively on Sky One and TV streaming service NOW TV in the UK and Ireland.

Sky renews Jamestown for Season 2

10th May 2017

Sky has renewed Jamestown for Season 2 – before the first season has even fully aired.

The frontier drama, written by Bill Gallagher (Lark Rise to Candleford, The Paradise), is set in 1619 in the early days of the first British settlers in America. It tells the story of a group of young women as they leave the Old World and their old lives behind them.

Produced by Carnival Films with worldwide distribution by NBCUniversal International Distribution, the show is part of Sky’s big investment in original drama, following the premiere of Guerrilla last month and preceding the premiere of Riviera this summer. Many of Sky’s original productions are now being released all-at-once as box sets on-demand alongside their TV broadcast. With Jamestown airing on a weekly basis instead, Sky’s confidence in its series is even more apparent, as the broadcaster gave the order to renew the programme before its first episode went out on Friday 5th May.

The eight-part second season, again written by Bill Gallagher (Lark Rise to Candleford, The Paradise), will see the ensemble cast, led by Naomi Battrick as Jocelyn, Sophie Rundle as Alice and Niamh Walsh as Verity, return for more adventures in 17th-century America.

It was commissioned for Sky by head of drama, Anne Mensah, commissioning editor, Cameron Roach and director of Sky 1, Adam MacDonald. Carnival’s Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant and Richard Fell will executive produce and the producer is Sue de Beauvoir.

Anne Mensah, head of drama, Sky, says: “The first series of Jamestown is unique, beautifully shot and packed with compelling storylines full of adventure and emotion. It demonstrates Sky’s commitment to make the highest quality drama and has left us all wanting more. With Bill Gallagher drawing from the real events in this rich period of history for the next instalment of the series, it’s a fascinating story that we are thrilled to continue telling, especially that of the extraordinary women at the heart of the show, Alice, Verity and Jocelyn.”

Principal photography will commence in June 2017.
