The award-winning series, inspired by a feature article in GQ magazine, has won acclaim and a huge audience of fans thank to its focus on the high stakes of junior college football. It follows players on a quest for redemption in the game, in the classroom and in life, as elite athletes in tough life circumstances struggle to realise their dreams.

“With the players’ futures in the balance every episode, there’s an emotional stake at play that makes every match we glimpse inherently gripping,” we wrote in our review of the show. “For non-sports fans, the thought of following a whole season of football is a daunting one, but Last Chance U’s strength partly lies in the way it condenses all of those ups and downs into six hours: a concentrated blast of action, emotion and real life that’s over in the blink of an eye.”

After two seasons following the recruits at East Mississippi Community College (EMCC), an undefeated team with 3 National Championship wins over four years under their belt, Season 3 switched up play to focus on a new team: the Independence Pirates in Kansas. After years of losing seasons, could Coach Jason Brown and the team vie for a spot among the best in the Junior College Football ranks?

Season 4 takes us back for Part 2. Entering his third season with ICC and second season on Last Chance U, Coach Brown has assembled a team that looks sure to compete for a national championship, but a disastrous season on the field puts a spotlight on all of the ugliness of college football that winning tends to polish over.

Find out what happens on Friday 19th July, when the new season premieres on Netflix UK. Here’s the trailer:
