Netflix has forecast more of The Rain this May, with Season 2 of the post-apocalyptic drama returning.
Created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen and Christian Potalivo, the disaster thriller is the streaming giant’s first Danish original series. It follows two young siblings as they join a group of young survivors setting out to find out whether a new world has begun somewhere else. They hope that their father is somewhere out there with answers.
“Cinematic, brutal and tense, Netflix’s dystopian survival thriller is grisly, gripping television,” we wrote in our Season 1 review. “Despite the young cast, The Rain doesn’t water things down (no pun intended). It’s satisfyingly gory in its approach… this grisly tone helps creates a palpable tension.”
After proving popular globally, particularly in the US, UK, Brazil, France and Germany, Netflix swiftly announced it had renewed the show for a second season. Now, the streaming giant has confirmed a release date, with Season 2 set to premiere on Friday 17th May. Here’s the video:

Summer may be just around the corner, but further rain is expected, with Netflix officially renewing The Rain for Season 2.
Created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen and Christian Potalivo, the disaster thriller is the streaming giant’s first Danish original series. Nonetheless, Netflix says it resonated with audiences globally, specifically in US, UK, Brazil, France and Germany, as well as its native Denmark.

“Cinematic, brutal and tense, Netflix’s dystopian survival thriller is grisly, gripping television,” we wrote in our Season 1 review. “Despite the young cast, The Rain doesn’t water things down (no pun intended). It’s satisfyingly gory in its approach – bodies decompose on the streets, ravenous, zombie-like bands of people scavenge for food, and a single drop of rain causes a violent, convulsive death. Alongside a synthy, ominous score, this grisly tone helps creates a palpable tension.”
Kelly Luegenbiehl, Vice President of International Originals for Netflix, says: “We’re really excited to team up with the talented cast and our team of amazing creators for another season. The Rain has a relatable and human story at its core and touches on universal themes everyone can identify with. The fact that Season 1 reached audiences all over the world, proves once again that strong stories can transcend borders.”
Mosholt adds: “We’re so thankful for the success of the show and the overwhelmingly positive response from audiences. We’re really excited to be able to do a second season of The Rain. We still have a lot of stories to tell about our characters and much more to explore in our universe and can’t wait for everyone to be able to see it.”
The series will go back into production later this year, with the second downpour forecast for 2019
