Watch: Disney+ Super Bowl trailer teases Loki, WandaVision and Falcon and Winter Soldier

“It’s time,” says Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) in the first trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ series during last night’s Super Bowl.

The teaser, dropped by Marvel Studios, could easily be speaking to UK fans, who have been waiting for months since Disney’s subscription platform launched in the USA. After debuting last year, it has been a long few months until it arrives on UK shores on 24th March 2020.

In Disney+’s first year, it will release more than 25 original series and 10 original films, documentaries and specials. Front and centre of that are Disney’s brand to maximum effect, and particularly Marvel, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki and WandaVision, a live-action series featuring Scarlet Witch and The Vision, on the way – as well as outings for Moon Knight, She-Hulk and more.

Those first three shows are leading Marvel’s renewed push into TV, so it’s only natural that Disney and Marvel Studios should take the Super Bowl as an opportunity to give us a first look at them in action. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson join Stan’s Bucky as they team up for some action. Wandavision will follow Vision and Wanda as they try to live their ideal suburban life together, until they suspect things aren’t what they seem – a premise that the footage suggests will be as trippy as it gets.

As for Loki, Tom Hiddleston only gets a few seconds of the promo, but it’s enough to show he’s as imperious as ever.

D23: Disney+ drops details on WandaVision, What If?, The Muppets and Diary of a Female President

This weekend sees Disney fans gather for the D23 Expo, and with the House of Mouse gearing up to launch its new subscription platform, Disney+, this November, a slew of new announcements and details were dropped for its growing slate of original titles.

As well as the trailer for The Mandalorian and news of She-Hulk and Moon Knight getting their own series – not to mention Ms. Marvel – Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige unveiled a host of new casting information and nuggets about the small screen plans the comics giant has.

In the already announced Falcon and Winter Soldier series, Feige has confirmed that Emily VanCamp will reprise her role as Sharon Carter, while Wyatt Russell will join the series to play John Walker, the first time the Marvel character has appeared on screen. Kari Skogland will direct the series and Malcom Spellman serves as head writer.

The also previously announced Wandavision will follow Vision and Wanda Maximoff (Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen) as they try to live their ideal suburban life together, until they suspect things aren’t what they seem. Described as part sitcom, the series will see the pair joined by Kat Dennings and Randall Park, who will reprise their roles from Thor and Ant-Man and The Wasp respectively. Kathryn Hahn will also appear in the show as a new character.

In Loki news, Feige revealed that Sex Education helmer Kate Herron will direct the series, with Michael Waldron as head writer.

And, in What If…? news, Marvel’s animated series that explores alternate timelines, realities and possibilities within the MCU, Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter, voicing the character as she takes on the Captain America mantle.

Other Disney+ news included details on the Monsters, Inc. series, Monsters at Work, which will take place immediately after Monstropolis has switched from scream power to laugh power, with Ben Feldman playing new monster Tylor, a recent graduate from Monsters U who must find his way through this new, funny world. Billy Crystal and John Goodman will return as Mike and Sulley in guest roles, with Aisha Tyler also joining the voice cast as Millie.

First looks were given at a number of Disney+ titles, including Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made – directed by Tom McCarthy and following the young boy who operates a detective agency with his polar bear – Togo – an adventure set in 1925 in the Alaskan tundra, starring Willem Dafoe and directed by Ericson Core – and Diary of a Female President, which follows a teenage girl’s journey through school on a path to become POTUS. Gina Rodriguez will exec-produce and have a recurring guest star role in the latter.

The Muppets were also confirmed as having their own short-form show on the service, with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and co. appearing in the unscripted series, MuppetsNow. Disney Channel favourites Phineas and Ferb will also get their own animated movie, while Toy Story 4 star Forky will get a new short-form series called Forky Asks a Question, which answers questions about money, love and more across 10 episodes.

And, of course, as well the host of trailers revealed, Disney also confirmed that Ewan McGregor will officially return to Star Wars as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new untitled Disney+ series, the news of which brought the D23 audience to a standing ovation.
