“Guys, I’ve been hiding something…” That’s the sound of Jamal and friends returning for a second season of Netflix’s On My Block – and this time, they’re ready to cash in.

Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of tragedy and Jamal’s discovery of the RollerWorld money, as Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Jessica Marie Garcia return to reprise their roles as a group of friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high school in the South Central neighbourhood.

Netflix ordered the second season within a month of the show’s debut last year, and now, after much anticipation, it’s set premiere on Friday 29th March. Here’s the trailer:

On My Block returns this month to Netflix, and a new clip gives us our first look at the show’s second season.

The teen series, co-created by Lauren Iungerich (Awkward), Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft, is a coming-of-age comedy about four bright and street-savvy kids in LA. Starring Diego Tinoco, Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Jessica Marie Garcia and Ronnie Hawk, it follows the friends as they navigate their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high school in the South Central neighbourhood.

Stick together to survive is the moral of the series, which teaches a group of young kids that high school is the foundation of the rest of your life – and you can only build that foundation if you’ve got your squad around you.

Netflix has renewed On My Block for a second season.

Season 1 premiered on Friday 16th March. Now, within a month of its debut, Netflix has already ordered a second run. It joins Alexa & Katie in being quickly renewed by the streaming giant, with the announcement following the news that its 90s-set teen sitcom Everything Sucks! has not been so lucky.

Awkward creator heads to Netflix for On My Block

The creator of Awkward is heading to Netflix for a new series, titled On My Block.

The coming-of-age comedy was announced this week by the streaming giant, after ordering 10 half-hour episodes. The series charts the growing pains of four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high school set in the rough inner city.

It stars Diego Tinoco (Teen Wolf) as Cesar Diaz, Jason Genao (The Get Down, Logan) as Ruby Martinez, Jessica Marie Garcia (Disney’s Liv and Maddie) as Jasmin, Sierra Capri as Monse Finnie and Brett Gray as Jamal Turner.

Lauren Iungerich has created the show with Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft. Iungerich will require no introduction to fans of teen drama: she created Awkward for MTV, which ran for five seasons from 2011, bagging a Teen Choice Award and a People’s Choice Award. She also worked on the TV version of 10 Things I Hate About You and has since written for the first season of Empire.
