What’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video in January 2021?

Amazon is seeing in the new year in style, with two big new exclusives on the way. First up is Season 3 of American Gods, hoping to get the fantasy epic back on track, and hot on its heels is Star Trek animated comedy Lower Decks, which joins Star Trek: Picard. With two new original films on the way as well, plus weekly episodes of The Expanse and This Is Us, it’s a promising start to 2021.

Here’s what’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video UK in January 2021:

The Real Housewives of Dallas: Season 5 (hayu) – 1st January

The ninth instalment of the Real Housewives franchise takes us back to Texas once more to catch up with with its residents.

The Stand (STARZPLAY) – 3rd January

The Stand is Stephen King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård), the Dark Man.

American Gods is the epic story of an inevitable war building between the Old Gods of mythology and our New Gods of technology. Ricky Whittle stars as ex-con Shadow Moon, a man pulled into the service of the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, played by Ian McShane — only to discover that not only is his charismatic but un-trustable boss actually the Norse All-Father god Odin, he’s also… Shadow’s father. In Season 3, Shadow angrily pushes this apparent destiny away, and settles in the idyllic snowy town of Lakeside, Wisconsin — to make his own path, guided by the gods of his black ancestors, the Orishas. However, he’ll soon discover that this town’s still waters run deep, and dark, and bloody, and that you don’t get to simply reject being a god. The only choice — and a choice you have to make — is what kind of god you’re going to be.

Forte – 20th January

This French comedy featuring Melha Bedia, Valérie Lemercier, Alison Wheeler and Jonathan Cohen follows Nour, a funny, single child in her twenties who works as a receptionist at a local gym. Nour is also overweight and struggles with her looks. Her close friends try to give her advice, but they are not particularly successful in the love department either. When a pole-dancing trainer at her gym offers to give her lessons, she decides to give it a go.

The Rental – 22nd January

Two couples on an oceanside getaway grow suspicious that the host of their seemingly perfect rental house may be spying on them. Before long, what should have been a celebratory weekend trip turns into something far more sinister, as well-kept secrets are exposed and the four old friends come to see each other in a whole new light. Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Jeremy Allen White, and Sheila Vand star in this debut thriller from Dave Franco.

Star Trek: Lower Decks – 22nd January

Developed by Emmy Award-winner Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites), Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.
