What’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video in January 2022?

Amazon is going big for the beginning of 2022, with a trio of exclusive films making their debut, including Hotel Transylvania: Transformania and and awards contenders The Tender Bar A Hero – plus the streaming release of 2021 awards heavyweight The Father. That line-up is complemented by a slew of licences for Fox titles, including The Grand Budapest Hotel and several M Night Shyamalan films.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video UK in January 2022:
The Blacklist: Season 1 to 5 – 2nd January
This hit US series follows a wanted FBI fugitive (played by James Spader), who agrees to help the bureau to get rid of certain criminals and terrorists on his own blacklist
Black Swan – 4th January
Natalie Portman is flawless in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller about a ballet dancer who finds herself slipping into madness when she gets the chance to play the lead role in a production of Swan Lake.
The Tender Bar – 7th January

Directed by George Clooney and starring Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan and Christopher Lloyd, this coming-of-age drama follows JR, a boy without a name and a father. At least, that’s the story according to many of the adults outside of his family. But when his mother moves back into her childhood home, JR’s charismatic bar-owning Uncle Charlie (Affleck) is determined the boy doesn’t see himself that way. Based on the memoirs of writer JR Moehringer and adapted for the screen by William Monahan (The Departed).

The Grand Budapest Hotel – 11th January
Ralph Fiennes is wonderful in Wes Anderson’s hilarious clockwork dainty that ticks along with a polite smile.
The Father – 12th January
Anthony Hopkins delivers a career-best performance in this simply devastating drama.
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania – 14th January

Titled Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, the fourth entry in the animated franchise sees the series creator Genndy Tartakovsky returns as one of the screenwriters and executive producers. It sees Drac and the Pack back,like you’ve never seen them before, as Drac (Brian Hull) faces his most terrifying task yet. When Van Helsing’s (Jim Gaffigan) mysterious invention, the Monsterification Ray, goes haywire, Drac and his monster pals are all transformed into humans, and the human interloper in their monstrous world, Johnny (Andy Samberg), becomes a monster. In their new mismatched bodies, Drac, stripped of his powers, and an exuberant Johnny, loving life as a monster, must team up and race across the globe to find a cure before it’s too late – or, at least, before they drive each other crazy.
A Hero – 21st January

Asghar Farhadi’s latest follows Rahim (Amir Jadidi), who is in prison because of a debt he was unable to repay. During a two-day leave, he tries to convince his creditor (Mohsen Tanabandeh) to withdraw his complaint against the payment of part of the sum. But things don’t go as planned.
As We See It: Season 1 – 21st January

A coming-of-age dramedy with a fresh perspective, As We See It follows Jack (Rick Glassman), Harrison (Albert Rutecki), and Violet (Sue Ann Pien), twenty-something roommates on the autism spectrum, as they strive to get and keep jobs, make friends, fall in love, and navigate a world that eludes them. With the help of their families, aide, and sometimes even each other, these roommates experience setbacks and celebrate triumphs on their own unique journeys towards independence and acceptance.
Unbreakable – 25th January
M Night Shyamalan’s masterpiece is a powerful call to look past the ordinary and believe in the extraordinary.
Sunshine – 26th January
Danny Boyle does sci-fi with this scorchingly good thriller about a bunch of scientists (including Chris Evans, Cillian Murphy, Michelle Yeoh and Benedict Wong) travelling to restart the sun after it begins to fade.
The Legend of Vox Machina: Season 1 – 28th January

This adult animated fantasy-adventure series, from Critical Role and Titmouse, is based on Critical Role’s first live-streamed tabletop RPG campaign. It follows Vox Machina, a band of misfits with a fondness for boozing and brawling. In a desperate attempt to pay off their mounting bar tab, these unlikely heroes end up on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces. From a sinister necromancer to a powerful curse, the group confronts a variety of obstacles that not only test their skills, but also the strength of their bond.
