What’s coming soon to Disney+ in January 2022?

Disney’s Netflix rival is here, serving up Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar originals, along with a post-modern revamp of High School Musical and every episode of The Simpsons.

Disney+ once again looks to Marvel for its big monthly debut, with Eternals arriving this January, alongside Hulu’s adult animated series Hit-Monkey. Disney+ Star also continues to provide the goods with the arrival of Big Sky Season 2, This Is Us and High Fidelity. But the most exciting arrival of the month is the long-awaited streaming release of modern coming-of-age classic The Spectacular Now.

Here’s what’s coming soon to Disney+ UK in January 2022:

Big Sky S2 (Star) – 5th January

When private detectives Cassie Dewell and Jenny Hoyt reunite to investigate a car wreck outside of Helena, Montana, they soon discover that the case may not be as straightforward as it seems. As they unravel the mystery of the accident, their worlds will collide with a band of unsuspecting teens, a flirtatious face from Jenny’s past, and a vicious outsider hellbent on finding answers.

Dollhouse S1-2 (Star) – 5th January

Big, intelligent and entertaining – Joss Whedon’s sci-fi thriller is a disturbing delight.

Bob’s Burgers S11 (Star) – 5th January

The latest season from one of the best animated family sitcoms since The Simpsons.

This Is Us: Season 1 to 6 (Star) – 6th January

Everyone has a family. And every family has a story. This Is Us chronicles the Pearson family across the decades: from Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) as young parents in the 1980s to their kids (the big three), Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) searching for love and fulfilment in the present day along with Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson). Season 6 premieres weekly after its US broadcast, with Season 1 to 5 also arriving on the same day.

The Spectacular Now (Star) – 7th January

Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley star in this underrated coming-of-age comedy-drama that’s raw with honest emotion.

Eternals – 12th January

Marvel Studios’ Eternals follows a group of ancient heroes from beyond the stars who have protected the Earth since the dawn of man. When monstrous creatures called Deviants, long thought lost to history, mysteriously return, the Eternals are forced to reunite in order to defend humanity once again.

Queens S1 E1+2 (Star) – 19th January

Queens follows four women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain their swagger they had as the Nasty Bitches, their 90s group that made them legends in the hip-hop world. The series is from ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios.

High Fidelity S1 (Star) – 26th January

A reimagining of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel, High Fidelity centres on Rob, a female record store owner who revisits past relationships through music. Zoe Kravitz is remarkable in what emerges as a nuanced commentary not only on relationships and romantic expectations but also pop culture. All episodes arrive at once.

Marvel’s Hit-Monkey (Star) – 26th January

A Japanese snow monkey, aided by the ghost of an American assassin, goes on a revenge quest through the Tokyo underworld, and becomes the famous “killer of killers” in one of the few Hulu adult animated Marvel projects to actually make it to the screen. All episodes arrive at once.

Underwater (2020) (Star) – 28th January

Kristen Stewart leads a strong cast in this derivative but entertaining creature feature.
