Disney’s Netflix rival is here, serving up Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar originals, along with a post-modern revamp of High School Musical and every episode of The Simpsons.

It’s a blockbuster month for Disney+ this July, with the debut of both Black Widow and Jungle Cruise online as well as in cinemas – not to mention the return of sci-fi series War of the Worlds, the arrival of family animation Monsters at Work and one of the most exciting music documentaries of the year. All that plus the first 10 seasons of The Walking Dead and the finale of Loki?

Here’s what’s coming to Disney+ in July 2021:

The Walking Dead: Season 1 to 10 (Star) – 2nd July

All 10 seasons of action-packed drama The Walking Dead arrive, charting life after a zombie apocalypse from the beginning, as former police officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) leads a gang of survivors.

Monsters At Work – 7th July

Monsters At Work takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated, and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.

The Empty Man (Star) – 9th July

The mysterious disappearance of a group of teenagers in a small Midwestern town is the starting point for this cult horror hit.

Black Widow – 9th July

Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledgerwhen a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha mustdeal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.Black Widow will be the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Race to the Center of the Earth – 14th July

This reality show follows four teams located in different parts of the world as they face a rigorous journey to be the first to reach the centre of the planet found in the middle of an ocean.

The Royal Tenenbaums (Star) – 16th July

Gene Hackman and Anjelica Huston are fantastic in Wes Anderson’s comedy about a dysfunctional family and their even more dysfunctional father. Because, let’s face it, who needs an excuse to re-watch it?

War of the Worlds: Season 2 – 16th July

Set in contemporary France and Britain, this Anglo-French reimagining of H. G. Wells’ classic follows pockets of survivors forced to team up after an apocalyptic extra-terrestrial strike all but wipes out mankind. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Gabriel Byrne and Elizabeth McGovern.

Meet Spidey and His Amazing Friends – 21st July

Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales team up to become Team Spidey and embark on heroic adventures to protect their community and save the day in this series of animated shorts that introduce preschoolers and their families to the world and characters of Meet Spidey and his Amazing Friends.

Turner & Hooch – 21st July

When an ambitious, buttoned-up US Marshal inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the dog he didn’t want may be the partnerhe needs. Turner & Hooch stars Josh Peck as Scott Turner, son of Detective Scott Turner portrayed by Tom Hanksin the 1989 film of the same name.

Behind the Attraction – 21st July

Peek beyond the magic of Disney Parks to discover what’s Behind the Attraction! From Executive Producers Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Brian Volk-Weiss, explore how Imagineers filled the Haunted Mansion with 999 happy haunts, how the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror transformed into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! (while defying gravity in the process) and why Space Mountain took so long to launch. From the 1950s to today, from Jungle Cruise to “it’s a small world” to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney Parks attractions have amazed millions. And this is the story of how they did it.

Chip n’ Dale: Park Life – 28th July

Two tiny troublemakers have huge adventures while trying to live the good life in a big city park. Nervous worrier Chip and laid-back dreamer Dale make the perfect odd couple: they’re best buddies and they drive each other nuts. In their perpetual pursuit of acorns, these ultimate underdogs are joined by Pluto, Butch and other iconic Disney characters as they face down bullies great and small.

Jungle Cruise – 30th July

Join Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for the adventure of a lifetime on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, a ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr Lily Houghton. Available with a Premier Access fee of £19.99.

Summer of Soul (Star) – 30th July

Summer of Soul transports us back to 1969 to one of America’s most epic events – The Harlem Cultural Festival. For six weeks, just 100 miles south of Woodstock, the epic event celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. It was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park) and featured performances from Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Ray Baretto, Abbey Lincoln & Max Roach and more. But after that summer, the footage was never seen and largely forgotten – until now, thanks to the feature directorial debut of Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson.
